TSABONG MINI STADIUM ALMOST COMPLETE IN BOSTWANA

Tsabong Mini Stadium is almost complete and will soon be availed to the public for partial use.

This was said by Tsabong District Council deputy council secretary, Bosele Rabakane during a tour of the stadium by Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture (MYSC), Tumiso Rakgare recently.

Rabakane said other stadium components await completion.

So far he said, a total cost of P8.6 million had been spent on Phase 1 part of the project, which stood at 95 per cent completion rate.

The completed structures are the boundary wall, ticket booths, one ablution block and a block of kiosks.

Rabakane said change rooms that were halted by contract termination were now on track, scheduled to be completed by end of this month after a new contractor was handed the site in November last year.

He said Phase 2 of the project should commence in 2024/2025 financial year and it covered construction of additional ablution blocks estimated at a cost of P1 million, an artificial turf estimated to cost around P8 million and a 300-seater stand estimated at P2 million.

He said council and MYSC were currently working on the modalities of how the stadium, particularly completed buildings, would be used to benefit the community.

“This follows instruction from the ministry that the stadium can now be handed over for partial use by the community. Once we are done with the change room and water reticulation and power it will be available for use,” he said.

Minister Rakgare advised on incorporation of solar electricity to power the stadium to make use of the abundant green energy in Kgalagadi District.

He said constituency stadiums played a critical role in growing outdoor sports, collegiate sports games, and community building thus he called for all stakeholders to collectively work together to nurture talent from grassroots level.

He highlighted that it was imperative for council and MYSC to come up with a programme to make use of local, retired sports role models and effectively use the facility to nurture talent of young people.

Thus, he said it was important to come up with a plan to identify those who had played and before and engage them to impart sport knowledge and skills in young people.
